Deep Tissue Massage

Slow, firm pressure that works into the deeper layers of muscle to ease knots and built-up tension.

Ideal if you carry stress in your shoulders, neck or back, or if a relaxation massage just doesn't go deep enough for you.

Your massage is performed in a private room on an electric table, with fresh white towels from our in-house laundry.

The Science, Simply

Tap each one to find out more.

It calms your nervous system

Firm, steady pressure helps switch your body out of "fight or flight" and into "rest and digest" mode. Your heart rate slows, your muscles stop guarding, and tension can let go.

It changes how your body reads pain

Slow, deep pressure sends your brain a stronger signal than the ache does, which helps turn the volume down on tightness and discomfort.

It works where the tension sits

Slower strokes and firmer pressure reach the deeper muscle layers that a lighter massage doesn't, like the shoulders, neck, lower back and hips.

It lowers stress hormones

Massage has been shown to reduce cortisol, the hormone your body releases under stress.

What To Expect

Before

We chat about where you're tight or sore, anything that's been bothering you, and how firm you like it. Let us know about any injuries or health conditions.

During

Slower, firmer pressure focused on the areas we talked about. Your therapist checks in on the pressure, and you can always ask for lighter or firmer.

After

You'll feel looser and lighter. Some spots may feel a little tender for a day or two, which is normal after deep work.

After Your Massage

  • Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated supports your muscles and helps you feel your best afterwards.
  • Have a warm shower or bath. Warmth can help ease any tenderness.
  • Keep moving gently. A walk or a light stretch helps stop things stiffening up.
  • Go easy on hard training for the rest of the day if you feel tender.
  • Tender for a day or two is normal. If anything feels sharp or doesn't settle, give us a call.

Common Questions

Does it hurt?

It shouldn't. It's firm, but your therapist works to your comfort level.

Will I be sore after?

Possibly a little tender in the areas we worked on, usually for a day or so.

Why should I drink water after?

You've been lying still in a warm room for a while, so a glass of water helps you feel fresh and settled before you head off. Staying hydrated also supports your muscles as they recover.

Can I have it while pregnant?

No. Deep tissue isn't offered during pregnancy, but have a look at our pregnancy treatments instead.
